When he asked me to help bring this vision to life, I was honoured and enjoyed finding ways to add a personal touch, and made sure there were fun aspects to discover, every time they look at the painting, such as lines from their favourite H.P. Lovecraft books.

I called it Observations & Adaptations to signify the ups and downs of marriage, and as I painted, I thought about it as a prophecy for their future, that they continue to put their marriage first as the years go on, building a stronger marriage every day, and to be an example for their children, to show them what a successful, loving and respectful marriage looks like. I loved the idea of an octopus, to signify this adaptation, as octopi adapt in so many ways to their environment - whether its by camouflage, adjusting the colour of its skin to blend in with the ocean floor, or by shifting their bodies to slip through the smallest of spaces. A great lesson to learn from the octopus - the world around us changes constantly, and we learn to adapt and adjust to our surroundings, while still remaining true to who we are at our core.

Size: 24 x 30 (inches)
Medium: Mixed Media and Oil paint
Surface: Gallery Wrapped Canvas

PLEASE NOTE:
Commissions start at $2.00 per square inch, price varies depending on complexity and materials used. A reminder of where they started, and the beautiful life that they built together over 40 years of marriage. When I came up with the plan, I knew I would have to be sneaky about how to get them to pose in the same way I needed for my reference photo, without giving away the surprise, so I said to them one day, "How cute would it be to recreate your wedding photo?" My plan worked, they did it! Now my plan could commence.

But I didn't want to just paint a portrait, I wanted to paint their life. Mom and Dad live on a beautiful river-side acreage in southern Manitoba (Canada). Every time I'm there for a visit, I'm in awe of the beautiful landscape. The most gorgeous sunsets. The foliage (much of which is thanks to Mom's hard work with gardening). The lilacs, the birch trees, peonies. Their brood of chickens that provide our family with fresh, free-run eggs on a daily basis. A painting of their life would not be complete without also an appearance of their 14 year old toy poodle, Luke - can you spot him?

Size: 20 x 20 (inches)
Medium: Mixed Media and Oil paint
Surface: Gallery Wrapped Canvas

PLEASE NOTE:
Commissions start at $2.00 per square inch, price varies depending on complexity and materials used.
